Wedding Pots, Pelli Kundalu, Avireni Kundalu, The Significance
This ritual usually happens just after the mangalasutram ritual. Generally, two earthen pots are filled with water and kept in front of the couple, the bride and groom. After this lamps are lighted, in fact seven lamps are lit up.
Then tied around the necks of these pots, are turmeric roots. This ritual is part of Telugu weddings, especially from the Telengana region. These avareti kundalu or avireni kundalu, are made to represent the divine. The newly married couple then pray to these deities.
We have these wedding pots in various intricate designs and colours, with crystals, beads, kundans and all, a wide variety for you to choose from.
Some of the designs on the pelli kundalu are the swastika, the symbol om, the kalasam or the traditional bowl with a coconut on top. In some of these avireni kundalu have God Ganesha and so on these pots. The most preferred ones may be the ones with Govinda nama on them.
